Penn in 1682 and laid out in a simple grid pattern that included wide streets

Independence Hall in Philadelphia can be considered the
birthplace of the United States of America, as it was here that the Declaration
of Independence was signed in 1776, the Articles of Confederation uniting
the thirteen (13) colonies were ratified in 1781 and the Constitution setting
out the nation's basic laws was adopted in 1787. The building was designed
by Andrew Hamilton to house the Assembly of the Commonwealth (colony) of
Pennsylvania. Finished in 1753, it is a modest brick structure with a steeple
that was intended to hold the Liberty Bell!
According to the oral history, in 1777, three men-George Washington, Robert Morris,
and George Ross, visited Betsy Ross in her upholstery shop. Washington pulled a folded
piece of paper from his inside coat pocket. On it, was a sketch of a flag with thirteen red
and white stripes and thirteen six pointed stars. Washington asked if Betsy could make a flag from the design. Betsy responded: "I do not
know, but I will try."As the story goes, Betsy suggested changing the stars to five points rather than six. She
showed them how to do it with just one snip of her scissors!
The Liberty Bell is one of the most prominent symbols of the American Revolutionary War. It is a familiar symbol of independence within the United States and has been described as an icon of liberty and justice. According to tradition, its most famous ringing occurred on July 8,
1776, to summon citizens of Philadelphia for the reading of the Declaration of Independence! The original bell cracked in 1752 and was repaired. During a Celebration for George Washington's Birthday in 1846, the repair on the Liberty Bell cracked again making the bell unusable.
The concept of lightning being electricity was discovered by Benjamin
Franklin in 1752 when he was able to draw lightning from the clouds by
means of a kite. As legend goes Ben flew a kite, attached to an iron key during a thunderstorm. The negative charges in the key that were caused by the lightening in the thunderstorm actually gave Ben's hand a SHOCK!
